Born in Illinois in 1975, Carmen Lozar turns emotional perceptions into glass works of art. As an undergraduate at the University of Illinois, she interned at Bulls Eye Glass Factory in Portland, Oregon. Carmen was able to attend Pilchuck Glass School as a winner of the Saxe award, and as a member of the staff.
After completing her BFA, Carmen journeyed to China, Indonesia, Thailand, and India to explore traditional art in the East. Upon her return to the United States she moved to the Southwest and opened a casting/flameworking facility in Tucson, Arizona.
Late in the year 2000, Carmen took on a residency at Corning Museum of Glass, and in 2001 was awarded her Master of Fine Arts from Alfred University in New York. Carmen is a familiar face at glass conventions everywhere, and frequently demonstrates her Flameworking artistic abilities for them.
Once again, in 2008, Carmen attended the International Flameworking Conference as a demonstrating artist, and keynote speaker. She now lives in Bloomington, Illinois, where her studio is located, and is a faculty member at the Wesleyan University in Illinois.
