Ramon Puig Cuyàs was born in Matarò, Barcelona, where he grew up watching the sea from the window of his house. Gazing at the passing ships in the Mediterranean, Puig Cuyas imagined traveling to far off lands and exotic ports . At night when the stars were out, he looked through his telescope and dreamed of exploring the universe. This gave him a thirst for discovery which he later channeled into his jewelry and art.
Puig Cuyas was educated at the Massana School, Department of Jewelry in Barcelona where he is currently the head of the jewelry department. He has won many awards including the Prize “Fi de Carrera” Fundacio General Meditteranea, Barcelona in 1975. He received the Herbert Hofmann Prize, Internationale Handwerksmesse in Munich in 1981,1984 and 1994. In 2001 he won a Premi Ciutat de Barcelona de Disseny cultural award and in 2009 won a Diploma Mestre Artesa, Generalitat de Catalunya, Barcelona, an award for master craftsmanship.
Ramon Puig Cuyas has works in numerous museum collections around the world including the Museum of Arts and Design, NY, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, the Schmuckmuseum, Pforzim, Germany the Dallas Museum of Art , The Dorothy and George Saxe Collection , the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and many others. He has participated in exhibitions in the U.S., Europe and Asia.
