Laura Peery Description

I love the way clay takes on qualities of other materials. Early on I was pulled in by its ability to mimic fabric. As if if cutting from a dressmaker's pattern, I assemble simple shapes, then layer texture, pattern and color. No two are alike. Each piece is altered until it feels exactly right.

After receiving my MFA from George Washington University, I began exhibiting work in Washington DC, my hometown, and later in galleries in the US, Taiwan and Canada. The Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, DC, The Fuller Museum of Craft, Brockton, MA and The Cameron Art Museum, Wilmington, NC all have samples of my work in their permanent collections. Relocating to Asheville NC in 2015, you can find me now, full time, in my studio, and find my work in Bender Gallery.
